If you downloaded Todoist for Windows from the Microsoft Store before October 2025, you can now switch to the new and improved Todoist desktop app. This MSIX-based version offers a smoother and more secure experience. Follow these steps to uninstall your current app and install the latest Todoist for Windows.
Understand the MSIX format
MSIX is a sandboxed format, which virtualizes filesystem and registry access, so that you can run Todoist in a more secure environment.
MSIX apps offer clean installs and uninstalls, and will have proper entries (for example: “Startup applications”) in your computer’s settings. This ensures a more streamlined setup and easier app management in Windows.
Install Todoist as an MSIX app
Note
To use the MSIX version of Todoist for Windows, check if your computer runs on Windows 11. To ensure a smooth transition, you must first remove the old version of the app before installing the new one.
- Uninstall the current Todoist app from your Windows computer.
- Download and install the MSIX version from the Microsoft Store.
The MSIX version removes all Todoist installation files automatically from your computer, so there’s nothing to clean up after.
Update the app
Once you've installed the MSIX version, you won't need to manually check for updates. The app will update automatically through the Microsoft Store whenever a new version is released.
