Are your tasks not syncing to Google Calendar, or are calendar events not appearing in Todoist? When the Google Calendar integration isn't working as intended, it can disrupt your productivity workflow. Follow these step-by-step troubleshooting instructions to verify your settings, reset your connection, and get your tasks and events syncing smoothly.
快速提示
How the Google Calendar sync works
A lot of sync "issues" turn out to be the integration working exactly as designed – just not quite the way you'd expect. Here's a quick overview before you dive into troubleshooting:
- Tasks only sync to Google Calendar if they have a date and time. A date alone isn't enough, unless you've enabled Sync all-day tasks in Settings > Calendars.
- Google Calendar events are read-only in Todoist. They appear in your Today and Upcoming views, but they won't become tasks.
- Google Tasks don't sync – only Google Calendar events do.
- Adding events directly to the Todoist calendar in Google Calendar won't create new tasks in Todoist. The integration only syncs changes to events that are already linked to existing tasks.
- Tasks are synced to a separate Todoist calendar. It's not possible to select a different calendar to sync your tasks (for example, your primary calendar).
If any of those points explain what you're seeing, you may not need to troubleshoot anything at all. If something still seems off, read on.
Check for app updates
Before anything else, make sure you're running the latest version of Todoist. Older versions can lose sync functionality after infrastructure updates.
If you're on an older device, make sure it's supported by Todoist.
Tasks aren't appearing on Google Calendar
When you use the Calendar integration, tasks sync to a separate Todoist calendar in Google Calendar. If your tasks aren't showing up, follow these steps to make the calendar visible and verify your sync settings.
Make the Todoist calendar visible
- Open Google Calendar.
- Look for the Todoist calendar in the left sidebar under My calendars.
- Select the Todoist calendar to make it visible.
Verify task sync criteria
All tasks that match the following criteria will sync as events:
- The task is in a non-shared project, or it's been assigned to you in a shared project. Projects in a team workspace count as non-shared if there are no other members – tasks in those projects sync even if they haven't been assigned to anyone.
- Tasks with a date and time (or date, time, and duration).
- Tasks with a date (if you have Sync all-day tasks enabled in Settings > Calendars).
- Tasks that aren't deleted.
请注意
Reset the integration
If an eligible task still isn't syncing, disconnect and reconnect the integration. This resolves the majority of sync failures:
- Click your avatar.
- Select Settings.
- Open the Calendars tab.
- Click Disconnect.
- Click Connect Google Calendar and follow the setup process again.
Completed recurring tasks not showing as completed on Google Calendar
This is by design. If you complete an occurrence of a recurring task, the event stays on the calendar and doesn't get a checkmark. The event will only get a checkmark if you complete the task forever.
Google Calendar events in Todoist
Google Calendar events appear in your Today and Upcoming views in Todoist, but they're read-only – you can't edit or complete them from within Todoist.
Google Tasks aren't syncing
Only Google Calendar events sync with Todoist – Google Tasks don't. If you want your Google content to appear in Todoist, make sure it's saved as a calendar event rather than a task.
Creating new tasks from Google Calendar
Adding a new event to the Todoist calendar in Google Calendar won't create a new task in Todoist. If you want to quickly add a task while you're looking at Google Calendar, use the global Quick Add keyboard shortcut.
Sync delay for Google Calendar events
If Google Calendar events are taking a long time to appear in Todoist, try clearing the app's local data:
- Click your avatar.
- Select Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Reload under Clear local data.
If events are still missing after that, disconnect and reconnect the integration.
You're no longer using the integration, and old Todoist calendars are appearing on Apple Calendar
Unfortunately, this is an issue on Google's end.
If you're seeing old Todoist calendars in the macOS/iOS calendar app you can follow these steps to remove them:
- Log in to your Google Calendar account.
- Click the gear icon to open settings.
- Select the old Todoist calendar from the calendar list.
- Click Delete at the bottom of the page on the right to delete it.
- Restart the Calendar app.
Adding multiple Google Calendar accounts
You can only sync Todoist to one Google Calendar account. As a workaround, you can subscribe to other calendars – even from other calendar apps or different Google accounts – so their events appear in your main calendar and sync through to Todoist.
Google Calendar integration keeps disconnecting
Company IT restrictions
If you're working within a company that has strict security policies, your IT software may be blocking the Todoist integration. This can cause it to repeatedly disconnect.
Reach out to your IT team and ask them to whitelist Todoist as a trusted tool.
OAuth authorization loop
If you're getting stuck in a redirect loop when trying to connect Google Calendar – particularly in Chrome on Linux – try opening the authorization flow in a private or incognito browser window. This usually breaks the loop and lets the connection complete.
